Fermín Rojas is a Cuban-borne producer, executive producer, filmmaker, playwright, and actor whose career has focused on socially conscious projects. He is co-founder of DKR Films based in Provincetown, MA, that has produced award-winning documentaries and narrative films screening on 5 continents at renown festivals like UNAFF, AMDOCS, DOC NYC, FRAMELINE, NEWFEST, HONOLULU FILM FESTIVAL, SXSW, and PIFF. Films include The Ali’i King, High Tide, There Are Things To Do, Alumbrones, The Black Mambas, and King Philip’s Belt, which screened at The Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of the American Indian.
Fermin’s plays include Liberty Talks (The saga of the Statue of Liberty); Cold War; Agonies & Ecstasies; Books for the musicals Miss Twinkleton’s School for Sensitive Boys, A Twinkle in Time, and Destination Holiday; numerous ten minute plays.
Fermin and husband Jay Kubesch, produced Cuba’s first and only gay men’s chorus, Mano a Mano, which toured the US in 2016, performing with Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC, and GALA Chorus Festival. Upcoming projects include The Gospel of Eureka (Musical) adapted from the titular documentary. He is a member of Desert Playwrights’ Retreat, Truro Playwright Collective, and co-chair of Shorts Program for the Ash Christian Film Foundation mentoring young LGBTQ filmmakers.
